The Key role of G7 is to adjust printing presses to a common neutral appearance using simple plate curves, yielding a standardized repeatable gray balance- HUH? What the heck does that mean? In a nutshell, Sonderen Packaging is committed to quality. When it comes to printing, quality means consistency and repeatability. For the majority of our customers we produce the same items multiple times. These items are oftentimes sold in retail settings and it is critical that the printing and craftsmanship is consistent from run to run so the products are well represented on the shelf. One way we ensure consistency is through G7 methodology.

“Although simple in concept, process color printing is a complex manufacturing challenge. This is due in part to subjective differences in human perception. It is also compounded by a long list of variables, including paper and other substrates, ink composition, type of print process, environmental, mechanical and procedural factors.” -Idealliance

As a G7 Master Facility Colorspace Printer we meet the latest printing specifications and deliver consistent repeatable work. This is the third level of G7 compliance and the most stringent. This level demonstrates that you are maintaining extremely tight tolerances throughout the whole color space.

In order to remain a G7 Master Printer, the qualification must be renewed annually. INX International is the company that supplies ink for our printing presses. They assisted us with our qualification and have been a valuable resource and partner. The G7 method outlines an easy-to-follow recipe for implementing ISO printing standards and additional metrics using grayscale appearance as the foundation. The result is a simple but powerful way to match color from proof to press. Inquire with your printers today if they are using G7 principals. There are three main benefits as the customer…

  • G7 is a method to ensure a similar neutral appearance across multiple printing devices.
  • G7 is used to consistently hit desired color targets.
  • G7 is designed to align all print processes, substrates, and inks.

Our prepress manager Matthew Cutshall recently attended a three day course presented by Don Hutcheson, the founder of the G7 Concept. G7 Training is a theory-based program, offering a blend of lab instruction and lecture on how to apply the G7 method on any type of printing process. “This course was intense and well done. Don was passionate about sharing his methodology with the class and the world,” says Matthew. After completing the course, Matthew tested at the Expert level and applies that knowledge when analyzing color and print related issues. He can take corrective action to bring systems and processes in control to a set method, standard, or specification with repeatable, predictable results. Matthew is also highly skilled in the field of color management, process and quality control for proofing and printing equipment.

“With these skill-sets, Matthew is a valuable asset to our internal team as well as our external customers because he is able to save time and money by applying his vast knowledge that will improve the quality of the final printed artwork,” says Keva Sonderen, Principal of Sonderen Packaging. We feel fortunate to have such an amazing team of professionals who have a desire to continuously learn and grow for the betterment of themselves and the company. We are committed to investing in our people so they may gain the expertise that will add value to our abilities as a custom manufacturer. G7 is one example of how we demonstrate our dedication to the craft of custom packaging.
